First Nations Law Scholarship
The Ngalaya and Colin Biggers & Paisley First Nations Law Scholarship is an annual scholarship for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander law students in NSW and the ACT.
The scholarship was established in 2021 by Ngalaya Indigenous Corporation, and is funded by Colin Biggers & Paisley.
The First Nations Law Scholarship is a once-off scholarship awarded to a passionate and committed Indigenous law student.Â
Applications are now open for 2022, apply before Sunday 8 May!
Scholarship benefits
The successful scholarship recipient will receive:
- A $5,000 scholarship payment;
- the opportunity to participate in Colin Biggers & Paisley training and professional development – including attendance of courses and conferences;
- mentoring support throughout the duration of your law degree; and
- any other support and advice that Ngalaya can offer to support the recipient in their goals.
Eligibility
Applicants for the scholarship must be:
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander; andÂ
- enrolled in a Bachelor of Laws, Diploma of Law, Juris Doctor, or Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at a tertiary institution in NSW or the ACT.
Assessment criteria
Applicants for the Ngalaya and Colin Biggers & Paisley First Nations Law Scholarship will be assessed based on their:
- Demonstrated commitment to First Nations justice;
- Demonstrated involvement in community-focused work;
- Potential to advance First Nations’ interests throughout their legal career; and
- Financial need.
Application process
To apply for the 2022 scholarship, send an email to directors@ngalaya.org.au attaching your:
- latest resume/CV;
- latest academic transcript; and
- a personal statement (max. 2 pages) that introduces yourself, your mob, and how you meet the assessment criteria above.
Applications close Sunday 8 May 2022.
