Ngalaya's First Nations Scholarship recipient, Tiarna Williams

Firstly, I would like to thank the Ngalaya Indigenous Corporation from the bottom of my heart for awarding me with the 2021 First Nations Law Scholarship. I can’t express in words how grateful I am for your support, and I can assure you that the study undertaken during my law degree will benefit greatly from your assistance.

My first year at university has not been without its challenges, but I am so proud of myself for digging deep and pushing myself through difficult times. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, this year has been quite stressful for me, due to the uncertainty the pandemic has caused. I have been unable to see family members who are unwell or catch up with my friends from high school. Although it has been difficult, I have preserved and have so far earned two high distinctions on different assessments which I am really proud about. Studying law is definitely hard work, but I am managing my schedule quite well and making sure to look after myself first. The financial support of this scholarship will definitely go a long way in easing some of the stress caused by the ambiguity of the future.

With the help of this scholarship, I will be able to purchase multiple law textbooks. I would have struggled to afford these textbooks without financial help, so this scholarship will definitely be a lifesaver during my law degree. These textbooks are critical to understanding course content and achieving high marks in assessment, so without them, my university experience would suffer. I also intend to put some of the scholarship money into savings, which will go towards an overseas exchange trip I hope to undertake during my degree.
