The University of Queensland (UQ) offers undergraduate and Master of Law degrees through their School of Law at their St Lucia campus.
UQ Law School Entry Requirements
If you’re a high school leaver or haven’t been to university before, an undergraduate Bachelor of Laws is for you. University graduates can study a postgraduate Juris Doctor degree. To learn more about the different types of law degrees, see our Law Degrees Explained page.
High school leavers can apply to study a standalone or combined Bachelor of Laws at UoQ through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC).
The entry threshold for 2022 is an ATAR of 97.00, or an IB of 39.
Alternative entry
UQ offers an alternative entry program for First Nations students. Admission pathway will consider previous formal education and a range of factors such as employment history, academic abilities, personal interests, and references.
To be eligible for the admission pathway, applicants must have:
- Listed UQ as a preference on their QTAC application
- Completed the prerequisites for chosen programs. If these have not been completed, applicants may present a case to demonstrate equivalent work experience or training.
Prerequisites for undergraduates applying for a Bachelor of Laws are Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) General English subject (units 3 & 4, C). Equivalent subjects for interstate applicants can be found here.

UQ offers a range of Master of Laws programs for postgraduate study. Prerequisites for entry include:
- An Honours or Master’s degree in law leading to admission to legal practice (e.g. LLB(Hons), JD or equivalent) with a GPA of 4; or
- A degree in law leading to admission to legal practice (e.g. LLB or equivalent) with a GPA of 4; and either –
- a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice or equivalent qualification; or
- two years of professional full-time (or equivalent) work experience in the same discipline, approved by the Executive Dean; or
- An equivalent academic or professional qualification in law and be able to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Executive Dean that you have the requisite knowledge and experience to complete the program.

How to apply for Master of Laws
All domestic applications for Master of Laws should be submitted to UQ. For more information on applying for postgraduate study, click here.
Applicants can also reach out to the ATSIS unit for support in applying.
Application deadlines for undergraduate study are:
- January 31st of the year of commencement (to commence in Semester 1);
- June 30 of the year of commencement (to commence in Semester 2).

Studying law at ANU law school
UQ operates on a two-semester calendar. A full-time study load is 8 subjects per year.

Practical Legal Training (PLT)
UQ does not offer a PLT program.
