Our Board
of Directors

Ngalaya Indigenous Corporation is governed by a Board of Directors. Directors are appointed for a 12 month term by Ngalaya members at our annual general meeting. Directors volunteer their time to manage Ngalaya’s activities, and meet throughout the year.

Kate Sinclair (Dharug), Chairperson
Kate is a Dharug woman from Kiama, NSW.

She joined the Ngalaya Board in 2017, and was appointed Chairperson for 2020. She works as a lawyer at Allens, where she is the Pro Bono Coordinator for the Sydney office.

Kate has a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from UNSW Sydney.
Jason O'Neil (Wiradjuri), Executive Director
Jason is a Wiradjuri man from Central West NSW.

He joined the Ngalaya Board in 2016, was Chairperson for 2018-19, and was appointed Executive Director for 2020.

Jason is a lawyer, and a Scientia PhD Candidate at UNSW Sydney where he is researching Indigenous self-determination. He has previously worked/volunteered for Gilbert + Tobin, Legal Aid NSW, Terri Janke and Company, and Redfern Legal Centre.

Jason has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Bachelor of Laws from UNSW Sydney.
Mark Holden (Dhunghutti), Director
Mark is a Dhunghutti man from Western Sydney. He has been a Director of Ngalaya since 2012, and was Chairperson for 2016-2017.

Mark works as a Solicitor at the Financial Rights Legal Centre.

Mark has a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from UTS.
Dayne Syron (Biripi, Worimi), Director
Dayne is a Biripi and Worimi man from the South Coast. He became a Director of Ngalaya in 2020.

Dayne is a Legal / Industrial Officer for the CFMEU.

Dayne has a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from UNSW Sydney.
Samara Hand (Awabakal, Worimi & Biripi), Director
Samara is a lawyer and PhD candidate at UNSW where she is researching the barriers and opportunities to realising Indigenous Peoples’ right to education in settler colonial states.

She has previously worked at the Aurora Education Foundation and the NSW Department of Education and is a founding member of NIYEC.

Samara has a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from UNSW, and an MA in Human Rights from the University of London.
Ruby Langton-Batty (Iman and Bidjara), Director
Ruby graduated from Law at UNSW and is now working as a Graduate Lawyer at the Paul Ramsay Foundation. She also has a Bachelor of Production Design from the Victorian College of the Arts and has worked as a professional stage and screen designer prior to studying law.

Ruby has held roles at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, KPMG and Reconciliation Australia. She is a member of the Biennale of Sydney’s Board of Directors.
