First Nations Law Scholarship

The Ngalaya

$5,000 awarded to a passionate and committed Indigenous law student.

The Ngalaya First Nations Law Scholarship is available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying law in NSW and the ACT.

 

Available once per year, applications for the 2026 Scholarship will open in March.

Benefits and  criteria

Scholarship benefits

  • once-off $5,000 payment; and

  • mentoring support provided by Ngalaya

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander; and

  • enrolled in a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor at a tertiary institution in NSW or the ACT.

Assessment criteria

Applicants will be assessed based on their:

  • demonstrated commitment to First Nations justice;

  • demonstrated involvement in community-focused work;

  • potential to advance First Nations' interests throughout their legal career; and

  • financial need.
